Examples of typical complex marine systems:
Two shore power cords and two generators feeding an AC changeover control panel, with split bus system (either generator can run both buses) typically one bus for domestic equipment and the other for air conditioning. AC power is then fed to Victron Quattro inverter/chargers, before being distributed throughout the boat using fully monitored and remotely controlled E-Plex modules. The Quattro’s will take care of charging batteries and will also supply inverted power for low consumption systems when shore power and generators are not available/required.
E-Plex can monitor and control loads within the system, ensuring there will be no nuisance tripping of shore supply breakers, but seemingly supply power just when and where you need it.
Two or three sets of engine batteries, domestic batteries and generator batteries are all fed to a DC control panel, where automatic cross-charging/paralleling is handled, negating the need for a system of battery disconnect switches. Remotely operated latching contactors can be switched from the helm to bring your vessel to life.
Distribution of DC power is then fed to E-Plex solid-state (no moving parts) modules for individual circuit protection and remote control, locally positioned near the circuit areas.
The entire system is monitored and controlled remotely by a screen at the helm or even an iPad or iPod touch.
E-Plex can take care of all lighting requirements including dimming which can be controlled by E-Plex’s own touch panels, iPod or your iPhone, or you could use ES Lightnet to make use of their glossy black touch panels and sophisticated colour control which bring an ultra-modern feel to any room.
As vessels are becoming more and more complex, it is often necessary to rewrite programs to exploit the functionality of installed systems.
